The Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School library service supports the educational and recreational needs of students and staff through a network of specialised libraries which house over 74,000 items in a variety of formats and provide access to computers, the internet and digital learning resources. All resources are centrally processed and listed on the Civica library catalogue. The catalogue can be searched from school and home. Resources may be requested from any site. The library service is committed to the development of independent learners able to locate, retrieve, assess and utilise information. The libraries provide a friendly, supportive and resource rich environment for students. Teacher librarians work collaboratively with students and staff at all levels. The development of literacy and a love of reading are priorities. The effective use of technology is promoted. Infinity Centre library, situated on the Keilor East campus, services the needs of year 11 and 12 students and teachers. A reserve system ensures equitable access to textbooks and high demand resources. Middle School (boys) library, also situated on the Keilor East campus, services the needs of year 7 to 10 boys and their teachers. Chess is a popular recreational activity with a chess club operating during Wednesday lunchtime. Middle School (girls) library, situated on the Moonee Ponds campus, services the needs of year 7 to 10 girls and their teachers. Book reports, recreational reading and the development of research skills within subject lessons, engage students. Junior School (boys) library, situated on the Essendon campus, services the needs of prep to year 6 boys and their teachers. All primary classes have one timetabled library lesson each week focussing on literature and research skills. A Friday morning kindergarten program, for cottages 49, 51 and 53, provided by the Junior School (girls) and (boys) teacher librarians, operates in this library during terms 2, 3 and 4. Junior School (girls) library, which shares the library space on the Moonee Ponds campus, services the needs of prep to year 6 girls and their teachers. All primary classes have one timetabled library lesson each week focusing on literature and research skills. Music House library, situated on the Keilor East campus, services the needs of all music students and staff through the provision of instruments, music, recordings and books. Eildon Camp has a small on site library. The libraries are open from 8.00 am until 4.00 pm each school day. Students may borrow most books for three weeks. Loans may be renewed. |
