Pastoral Care
An environment which demonstrates care for the individual child is one that actively supports learning
Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School takes pride in the level of close attention paid to the well being of each student.
At every level of the school a teacher is given direct responsibility for the day to day pastoral care of a group of students. These teachers meet with students daily and provide support to any student with particular needs. Coordinators and Heads of Section provide further support where necessary.
Chaplains
Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School is affiliated with the Victorian Synod of the Uniting Church of Australia. A full-time chaplain works at each campus. The Chaplains are available to discuss matters of difficulty with students. They are responsible for the school's Religious Education programme and oversee all religious activities within the school including the school's church services.
Students attend a Commencement Service, an Easter Service and a Mid-Year Service throughout the year. The services are conducted at St John's Uniting Church, Mt Alexander Road, Essendon. The school marks the end of the school year and the approach of Christmas with a Carol Service.
Religious Education classes are compulsory for all students until Year Nine and foster the ideas of social development and awareness within a Christian framework. Pastoral care is an important facet of the programme.
Careers
Students are advised on employment opportunities and the requirements for careers and entry to tertiary courses by the careers staff. A wide range of resources is available for student reference.
