Activities at Kinder - Royal Botanic Gardens Excursion

On October 12th the kindergarten children travelled to the Royal Botanic Gardens to participate in their spring program.

Utilising all of their senses the children investigated different types of plants, made pot pourri bags and explored the herb garden and the children’s garden.

The children found trees with branches that looked like hands, succulents with their own sunscreen; and plants that can be used for cooking, to deter insects or as medicine.

Each child potted a native grass to take home before returning to the education centre for a picnic lunch. We were entertained at lunch time firstly by a possum high above us under the eaves of the building and then by a baby possum which ran up the tree beside us and chattered with fright at all of the excited faces below.

A very happy, but tired group returned to kindergarten for a well needed rest.
