Language competitions 2006
PEGS offers students many chances to be involved in extension activities to their language studies through competitions and discussion groups of various types.
Chinese
Congratulations to the following students on their performance in the Victorian Chinese Reading Awards:
Year 9: Katelyn Tadd, (2nd prize), Adam Fambiatos (medallion)
Year 8: Clarissa Belanti (2nd prize), Matthew Ferraro (medallion)
Year 7: Zeren Ulusoy (2nd prize), Jeremy Russo (1st prize)
Stephen Bajraszewski, Philip Gao (Year 11), Anne Stewart and Shane Licheni (Year 10) also won awards in Chinese language competitions during 2006.
French
A number of PEGS students were selected as finalists in the state-wide French Writing and Oral Competition for 2006. This competition is run by the Alliance Française de Melbourne, an Australian non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of the French language and culture. It belongs to a worldwide network of 1400 Alliances set up in 138 countries. This event is said to be one of the largest of its kind in the world and this year had over 15,000 French students competing from over 150 different schools.

A special congratulations goes to Emily Lui who was awarded first prize for the written competition and the best overall Year 10 French candidate for 2006.

German



A number of PEGS students won prizes in the state-wide German poetry competition for 2006.
Indonesian
A number of PEGS students won prizes in the state-wide Indonesian writing and oral competitions for 2006.
These competitions are run by the Victorian School of Languages and the Indonesian Consulate General in conjunction with the University of Melbourne and the Victorian Indonesian Language Teachers' Association (VILTA).
Year 7 beginning: Lloyd House (1st place - oral); Mona Zhang (3rd place - oral)

Latin
PEGS students particiated with considerable success in Latin competitions in 2006. The following students won gold medal winners in the National Latin Examination:
