Blaze Aid was created after the infamous Black Saturday bushfires of February 2009. During those fires many of the fences on Kevin Butler’s Kilmore property were destroyed Local people provided Kevin with assistance to rebuild his fences and he established Blaze Aid (www.blazeaid.com) to help other people affected by the fires.
On Tuesday 23 June 18 year 9 PEGS students helped repair fire damage on properties in the Wandong and Flowerdale areas. They left the school at 6:45 am and arrived at the Blaze Aid base camp about an hour later where they were divided into two separate working groups. At the end of a hard day’s work, everyone was exhausted and ten and a half hours after they had met in the car park the group arrived back at school.
