THE PENLEIGH AND ESSENDON GRAMMAR SCHOOL ARCHIVES………..WHAT, WHERE AND WHY.
The PEGS Archives House is located at 78 Fletcher Street, Essendon. The function of the Archives is the selection, conservation and administration of access to the records and artefacts which best illustrate the origins, development and continuing history of the school.
The first official Archivist was appointed in 2005. A wide range of materials is held in the house – documents, monographs, Council minutes, photographs, textiles, DVDs, sporting and other memorabilia. Donations from former students, teachers and others connected with the School are gratefully received and are always welcomed.
Increasingly, the Archives play an important role in the School’s many activities. Continuing support was given from the Archives to the School’s historian, Doctor Victoria Peel, throughout the preparation and publication of the official history Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School: a history in 2001. Information and images to functions such as the launch of the new uniform in 2006, the Whole School Assembly in 2007 and other assemblies and displays are also provided. The PEGS Former Students’ Association maintains close links with the Archives, as exhibited in the extensive photographic displays mounted at the annual student reunions.
The Archives are open only by appointment on Wednesday and Friday. If you would like further information regarding PEGS Archives, please email the Archivist or contact the school on 9016 2000.
