The Role
Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School is seeking a motivated and reliable Gardener/Sports Turf Maintenance team member to join our Facilities Team.
This hands-on role is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the presentation, safety and functionality of the School's gardens, lawns, sportsgrounds and outdoor spaces across our campuses. Working as part of a collaborative Facilities Team, you will undertake a wide range of horticultural, turf maintenance and general grounds duties to ensure our facilities remain of the highest standard for students, staff and visitors.
Key responsibilities include maintaining gardens and landscaped areas, mowing and turf maintenance, operating irrigation systems, applying fertilisers and chemicals safely, preparing sporting fields, operating and maintaining equipment, and supporting general outdoor maintenance activities. The role may also involve assisting with school events, grounds set-up requirements and other facilities-related duties as required.
This is a full-time ongoing position with an opportunity for an immediate start. The role works across the School's campuses and sporting facilities and reports to the Grounds Manager.
Hours of work are Monday to Friday, 6.30am to 3.00pm, with one RDO per month. Additional weekend and out-of-hours work may be required from time to time to support the operational needs of the School.
Requirements:Â
- Qualification in Horticulture, Gardening, Turf Management or a related field
- Experience maintaining gardens, lawns, sportsgrounds and landscaped areas
Experience operating and maintaining turf and gardening equipment - Strong understanding of safe chemical storage, handling and application practices
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high standards
- Good organisational and time-management skills
- Physical capacity to perform manual work and work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Commitment to workplace safety and child safety
- Current driver's licence
- Current Employee Working With Children Check and satisfactory Criminal Record Check
- A medium rigid heavy vehicle licence, or willingness to obtain one, would be highly regarded

Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School has nearly 3,000 students from K-12 at campuses in Moonee Ponds, Essendon and Keilor East. The Keilor East campus is a large, busy campus housing secondary students from Years 7 to 12.Â
